Course description

The nine-hour training program aims to provide workers in the NSW HIV and hepatitis sectors with the knowledge and skills required to enhance service provision for clients from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

Training is provided face-to-face to individual agencies and can be tailored to your requirements eg. shortened, training modules combined. The course includes a pre-training audit of the agency across a range of dimensions and a post-training report with suggestions for ways to embed the learning from the training into the agency’s core business.

Three x 3-hour modules each focus on a different level of cultural competence:

·         Individual module focuses on direct client interaction, explores cultural influences on health behaviours and beliefs, as well as strategies for achieving cultural competence at the individual level.

·         Population module covers strategies to identify priority populations, and ways to reach and engage with CALD communities in HIV and hepatitis.

·         Organisation module includes strategies for embedding cultural competence into an organisation or service. Participants identify ways to increase the cultural competence of the agency.
